Biography of Barbara Avery
Barbara’s passion for cooking as art and sustenance began
as a child in her Nana’s kitchen. From
there, she went on to take food arts and management classes, own a personal chef
business, and work as a cook at a German American Club.
In 2003, Barbara combined her love of cooking with her appetite for
cookbooks and self-published The Collective Chicken – The Mike the Headless
Chicken Cookbook, a collection of recipes gathered over two decades.
The book has sold in
Fruita,
Colorado at the Mike the Headless Chicken Festival, Borders, and Hastings Books,
as well nationwide and in other
countries through her Recipes of the
Rockies
website and Amazon. com It has been featured in the Grand Junction Daily
Sentinel.
Barbara writes feature food articles for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, a
member of Cox News Service, through which her articles have been published in
other Cox affiliates.
Recipes from her book have been published in the Denver Post. She is also a
once-a-month guest chef on Mesa County's TV cooking show Supper Time Solutions.
Other endeavors include having moderated a class on self-publishing at Western
Colorado Community College.
